Addressing the Gaps in Children’s Education
Modern education has been primarily focused on academic success, the ultimate goal of achievement being material wealth. “Wealth over well-being,” in its simplest distillation. The consequence is simple: on a mental health level, we’re sicker than we’ve ever been. This is what happens when we realize all of the money and material possessions don’t actually make us happier or bring real meaning to our lives - we have a crisis of conscience and existence.
I’m building the Mindfulness Matters for Teen Well-Being program in response to this gap in our children’s education. My hope in constructing a holistic program of well-being for children, one that is grounded in mindfulness and covers the breadth of mind, body and spirit well-being, is that our children receive the tools and guidance that will lead to true thriving in adulthood.
On this quest, I’m excited to connect with organizations that hold a similar mission to better serve the needs of children In education. One such organization is BLOCS, whose mission is to provide scholarships to help children access high-quality, values-based education. In partnership with Pennsylvania’s EITC for educational tax credits, which celebrates 25 years this year, they’re doing incredible work in the space. BLOCS is hosting an event next week featuring NYT bestselling author Marie Benedict to discuss her latest novel, which gives voice to a near-forgotten female pharaoh of Egypt. Giving voice to those that need our support - like children, overlooked female figures of history - that’s the common tie that binds anyone who wishes to serve those that need support in this world.
Hoping to see you there.
